Event description

WIDA International Academy – Bangkok, Thailand – March 9-12, 2017

A four-day introduction to the WIDA English Language Development standards framework and assessments, this WIDA Academy will help schools to build capacity for a systemic approach to serving ELLs using the WIDA resources.

Implementing the WIDA Standards and Assessment System in International Contexts

9-12 March 2017, NIST International School, Bangkok

What teachers have said about the WIDA Academies

“Understanding how the WIDA components/resources fit together is the most useful learning from the academy for me. WIDA provides a thorough approach and the pragmatic tools necessary to address the strengths/needs of an English Language Learner in an international context.”

“The importance of Academic Language for ELLs is something that we have been working on for a couple of years, and the WIDA Academy helped to confirm that we are on the right track. Also, it was great to have a complete overview of WIDA: it’s not just about the assessment tool!”

“I learned very much in a short amount of time. I was really appreciative of the staff for helping us think about how we can teach others about WIDA and how to implement it in our schools.”

“I found the summaries at the end of presentations to be immensely helpful. Hearing from presenters currently working in the field when discussing implementation was more helpful than only hearing theory.”

Any teacher or administrator interested in WIDA. Schools are encouraged to send teams of educators to build capacity for implementation. Attendance is limited; registration is on a first-come, first served basis.

Academy Description

Participants in this academy will engage with components of the WIDA Standards and Assessment system and explore how it can be implemented in their context. During the academy, participants will use the WIDA standards framework to analyze the academic language demands of content standards at their school and create an instructional and assessment plan based on the needs of their students. Participants will also have opportunities to develop context-specific implementation plans for communication and collaboration with staff members.

Academy participants will also benefit from networking opportunities with international educators both in person and through an online community forum.

Credit from the UW-Madison is available for participating in this event at an additional cost.
